Pentagon: A Human Will Always Decide When a Robot Kills You, Until we Build a Robot that is Better Than a Human At Making That Decision!

In a bit of comforting news, the Pentagon cleared the waters today regarding the use of drones to kill.

Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter signed, on November 21, a series of instructions to “minimize the probability and consequences of failures” in autonomous or semi-autonomous armed robots.

Saying, quote that “A Human Will Always Decide When a Robot Kills You, Until we Build a Robot that is Better Than a Human At Making That Decision!”

The Pentagon wants to make perfectly clear that every time one of its flying robots releases its lethal payload, it’s the result of a decision made by an accountable human being in a lawful chain of command. That is until we can build Robots that have a rock solid Robot chain of command.

That day has not come yet, so we have nothing to worry. For the time being that is.
